FAQ

How do I catch my first Aniimo in Aniimo?
Enter Catch Mode, aim your Aniipod at a wild Aniimo, and check the catch percentage shown before throwing. Different Aniipods have different catch rates — Basic Aniipods work on common creatures, while Ultra and higher tiers are needed for rarer ones. Hitting a staggered or unaware Aniimo raises the odds.
Which starter should I pick: Helion or Lunara?
Helion is melee-focused with close-range burst damage. Lunara is ranged with wide-area attacks. Both are Light-element — choose based on whether you prefer melee or ranged combat. The choice is permanent: there is currently no way to acquire the other starter afterward.
What is the Twine system in Aniimo?
Twine lets you transform into any Aniimo you have collected. While Twined, you use that creature skills for traversal, puzzles, and combat. It is the core mechanic that sets Aniimo apart from other creature-collecting games.

What is Aniimo?

Aniimo is a free-to-play creature-catching open-world action RPG by Pawprint Studio. You play as a Pathfinder — a customizable character who explores the continent of Idyll, catching magical creatures called Aniimo using tools called Aniipods.

The game’s signature mechanic is Twining — the ability to transform into any Aniimo you’ve collected, gaining its unique abilities for traversal, puzzles, and combat. The full game overview covers the world and systems in depth.

Getting Started

Server and Character Name

Before anything else, two launch-day choices are effectively permanent:

  • Server: three servers at launch — Aniimo-America, Aniimo-Europe, Aniimo-Apac (official). Characters are locked to their server, cross-server progress sharing is not supported, and PS5 servers auto-assign from your PSN region — pick where your friends are first (details in the crossplay guide).
  • Character name: names are unique and first-come-first-served per launch-week coverage — have a backup ready, though appearance can be changed later.

Character Creation

Character creation is the first thing you do, and your character cannot be swapped later — so take a moment. You start from roughly six presets per body type and fine-tune across:

  • Face — shape, brows, eyes, nose, mouth, ears; the Face Blend wheel can combine up to three presets
  • Makeup — pupils and iris (heterochromia supported), blush, and skin tone on a full color wheel
  • Hair — style plus highlights and gradients
  • Body — segmented proportions
  • Clothing — your initial outfit (the full clothing designer opens September 30, 2026)

After creation, hairstyle changes are free — face changes need a Redesign Card.

Your First Quests

The opening frames you as a special observer for the Polaris Institute, and the first hour runs through four quests (per Game8’s launch quest list):

  1. An Idyllic Trip — you catch your very first Aniimo, the Fire-type Emberpup, and clear the path forward
  2. Aniimo Catching Journey — the catching tutorial
  3. The Mysterious Cavern — you meet Helion and Lunara and choose your starter
  4. Institute Initiation — you enroll at the Polaris Institute

Your First Catch

Catching comes down to three steps:

  1. Enter Catch Mode and aim at a wild Aniimo
  2. Check the catch percentage shown on screen
  3. Throw your Aniipod

What actually raises the odds (per Game8’s capturing guide): landing the throw from behind the Aniimo, staggering it by filling the Break meter, sneaking up on sleeping or unaware targets, and using higher-tier pods (Pro pods catch roughly 1.5× better).

Tip: Save your better Aniipods (Ultra, Pro) for rarer creatures. Basic Aniipods work fine for common catches.

Choosing Your Starter

In The Mysterious Cavern you’ll choose between two Light-element starter Aniimo:

Aniimo Role Combat Style Best For
Helion DPS Melee close-range burst Players who prefer aggressive, in-your-face combat
Lunara DPS Ranged wide-area attacks Players who prefer keeping distance and crowd control

The choice is permanent — there is currently no way to acquire the other starter afterward (Game8). The full side-by-side lives in Best Starter Aniimo: Helion vs Lunara.

The Twine System

Twining is Aniimo’s signature mechanic. It lets you transform into any Aniimo you’ve collected, gaining its:

  • Movement abilities (gliding, swimming, digging)
  • Combat skills (attack, passive, ultimate)
  • Puzzle interactions (environment-specific actions)

The complete mechanics breakdown — all three Twine types, best forms by role, and team composition — lives in the Twine system guide.

Twine vs Command Mode

Aniimo has two combat modes:

Mode Description When to Use
Command Mode Direct your Aniimo from the sidelines When you want to stay human and use human abilities
Twine Mode Transform into the Aniimo itself When you need the creature abilities for combat or traversal

Best Early Twine Forms

For your first few hours, these Aniimo are the most useful for traversal (per community launch-data compilations):

Aniimo Element Ability Why It’s Useful
Budclaw Earth/Grass Tunnel Enters tunnels — immune to ranged attacks while digging — to reach hidden areas
Celestis Dark Glide Cross gaps and reach high ground
Nimbi Wind Cloud Shield Blocks damage while you explore

Exploring Idyll

Idyll’s world is organized into major zones. The starting zone, Breezy Plains, contains 14 areas on its own; beyond it lie Astra and the Whisperwake Isles (per Game8’s launch map). Unique Aniimo appear according to environment, weather, phenomena, and time of day (official) — so:

  • Day/night cycle affects which creatures spawn
  • Weather changes Aniimo forms and spawn rates (weather variants like Rainstorm Nimbi exist)
  • Phenomena — special world events that alter spawns

First Stops: Breezy Plains and Nimbus Fields

One of the first areas you’ll roam inside Breezy Plains is Nimbus Fields — a grassland home to 17 Aniimo (13 base species plus weather variants such as Cloudmist and Rainstorm Nimbi, per Game8). This is where you’ll:

  • Catch your first Wind, Grass, and Water Aniimo
  • Learn basic traversal abilities
  • Complete your first quests
  • Meet other Pathfinders

Every species is indexed in the All Aniimo database.
