Aniimo is a free-to-play creature-catching open-world action RPG by Pawprint Studio, launching September 16, 2026 on PC and consoles (mobile on September 23). You play a Pathfinder exploring the continent of Idyll, catching magical creatures called Aniimo with tools called Aniipods — and, in the game’s signature twist, transforming into the creatures you catch.

What is the Twine system?
Twining is what sets Aniimo apart from every other creature collector. Rather than commanding your team from the sidelines, you transform into the Aniimo you have collected and take direct control of its abilities — using creature forms to traverse the world, solve environmental puzzles, and fight.
In practice this means your collection is also your movement toolkit and your combat wardrobe: a flying form crosses a canyon, a burrowing form reaches a hidden cave, and a heavy hitter handles a tough fight. Our starter comparison shows how the choice between the two starting Aniimo shapes this from minute one.
Where does Aniimo take place?
The game is set on Idyll, a continent that mixes pastoral fantasy landscapes with a sky-floating metropolis. The official site names several regions you will explore: Nimbus Fields, Mistwoods, Blitzwood, the Sea of Flowers, Echoback Landing, and the Forest of Falling Stars.
Each region hosts its own wild Aniimo to catch — your Aniilog (the in-game collection index) fills out as you discover new species and forms across the map.
Can you play with friends?
Yes. Aniimo launches with online co-op quests, competitive multiplayer, and a signature PvEVP mode called Operation: Egg Heist, where 3-player teams race to pull off egg heists against each other and the environment. Cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed on the store listings, so PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and (after September 23) mobile players share the same world.
Once the game is live, we will cover team play in depth — until then, the release date page tracks the exact unlock times per storefront, and the starter comparison helps you pick your first combat style.
How much does Aniimo cost?
Nothing to start. Aniimo is free to play — the Steam listing describes it as “free-to-play” with in-app purchases listed among its features. There is no paid edition, no box price, and no subscription; purchases are optional, and the game supports 13 interface languages at launch.
That also means pre-registration rewards matter: the pre-registration campaign passed 30 million sign-ups, so new players claim a stack of launch bonuses. And when promotional redeem codes start appearing around launch, every tested code lands on our codes page with a last-verified date.
Which Aniimo can you catch?
Your journey starts with a choice between two Light-element starters — Helion (close-range melee) and Lunara (ranged) — and expands quickly: community beta indexes counted the roster near one hundred species and forms, a figure we re-verify against the release Aniilog at launch. We profile the starters in Helion and Lunara, and the creature database grows with in-game verification after launch.
